Side return kitchen extension

This family love to cook and entertain so wanted to increase the size of their kitchen significantly, with plenty of space for dinner parties and day to day hanging out as a family.

We decided to do a full side return extension and also go further back into the garden to really maximise on space. This created a huge, bright new space, with minty green bi-folding doors and a fantastic tall window that could be used as a window seat. We also added more roof windows all along the side of the new extension.

The kitchen was designed using ply-wood and coloured laminate in 2 shades of yellow, with the kitchen island being the darker yellow. The new layout meant the owners now have plenty of storage, and loads of work surface for chopping and room for the kids to do their homework.

After initially looking at oak herringbone flooring, we ended up choosing a gorgeous siberian larch plank that had lots of patina, and will look even more fantastic in time. We installed underfloor heating, so no radiators were needed, which mean’t we had more space for furniture.

Simple white back splash tiles complimented the clean and fresh yellow cupboards, and an off white colour was used for the walls to add to the warmth of the floor.

Lastly, we reconfigured the existing patio area and gave it a makeover with clay pavers in a basket weave pattern and added floating benches to each side of the garden, so there was flexibility for a table and outside dining.

The family now virtually live in this space!

We loved working with Sarah! She has helped us make a kitchen that we love being in; helping us see solutions and offering alternatives and suggestions when we got stuck. Her advice on colours and her meticulous attention to detail was just so helpful - I'd recommend her to anyone!
